I am unable to send mail from my access.k12.wv.us account when I travel or take my computer home.

The smtp.k12.wv.us outoing mail server is configured to only permit use when a computer is connected to the K-12 School network or the WV State Government network.   The smtp.k12.wv.us server cannot be used when you are connected to your home Internet service provider or other networks.
Solution:

Use the outgoing server smtpa.k12.wv.us when configuring the e-mail client software for an access.k12.wv.us account on a mobile computer. The outgoing mail server of smtpa.k12.wv.us on port 587 which will permit you to send mail from almost any network.

The server is named SMTPA to indicate SMTP authentication and requires a username and password in order to send mail. The username and password is the same as what your account requires to read incoming mail.
